Our voices crack with excitement, our hearts palpatate with anticipation, our loins cry out with longing for the most anticipated film of 2017….

MONSTER TRUCKS!!!

Ok that’s not true. Actually it’s January (a.k.a Dump Month) the  perennial dumping ground where studios discard their bottom of the barrel mishaps on the general public and hope they don’t lose too much money and/or respect. Monster Trucks is one of the more high profile movie blunders in recent memory with Paramount Pictures announcing their expectations of huge losses at the box office months before the film’s release.

That being said, this coming week at the Box Office isn’t that horrible for the second week in January. Even including Monster Trucks and another cringe-worthy entry The Bye Bye Man, we still managed to squeeze out a few interesting films.

SILENCE- (wide release)- Martin Scorsese’s passion project finally finds its way to a nationwide release.

SLEEPLESS-  Jamie Foxx’s new action film based off a French thriller called Sleepless Nights

LIVE BY NIGHT- Ben Affleck wrote, produced and stars in this new period piece. Can it live up to previous outings like The Town and Argo?

MONSTER TRUCKS- Written by a four year old and produced by your drunk uncle. Monster Trucks is, well just watch.

PATRIOTS DAY- Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg impressed and entertained with both Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon. Now the two team up again to shed light on another recent tragedy. Will they be able to show us humanity in the midst of horrible events in Patriots Day? A movie about events surrounding the bombing at the Boston Marathon.

Bye Bye Man- Directed by an Emo who dropped out of online film school, Bye Bye Man will make you want to hate everything.

The Golden Globes

If you listen to our podcast on a regular basis then you know that we aren’t the type of fellas to sit back with a Moscato in our period sweatpants and watch awards shows. However, we do love Movies and TV, so there definitely was some things for us to take interest in. Wesley’s Anglophile addiction The Crown won for Best TV Series and Best Actress in a TV Series (Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth). We were all pleased to see the future Lando Calrissian himself, Donald Glover win Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for his show Atlanta which also won in the category of Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Other notables for us were nominations by Deadpool and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge. Lastly, it’s impossible to ignore the dominance of La La Land which won seven awards! A new record by the way and I’m not ashamed to tell you I’m excited to see it.

The Skwad

As you can see our boy Plank makes his long awaited return to the podcast but it’s stories of Wesley’s arrest and Alex’s college farm animal fiasco that gets people talking. Beebz surprised us all with a spot on Dave Chappelle impression and his idea of an all-black Avengers leads Wesley into creating the character Captain Algeria. As always, Derek keeps us on track and corrects course with a smooth transition into his idea of Peter Dinklage’s role in Infinity War. All in all one of our best episodes of the VIA VHS podcast to date so we hope you enjoy.
